Six debt-ridden farmers in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra have committed suicide since Thursday, an NGO said on Friday.

With these deaths, the number of suicides by farmers in the region in September has risen to 116, the Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti, working for the cause of farmers in the region, said.
Of the six, two were from Amravati district, one each from Yavatmal, Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Washim, Samiti President Kishore Tiwari said.
The farmers were identified as Ramesh Dalpatrao Bhatkar of Kurha village, Gopinath Dongre of Pusada (both in Amravati district), Ravindra Chakbandalwar from Antargaon (Gadchiroli), Ramalal Baghel of Rajegaon (Bhandara), Parasram Rathod Gramrahi (Washim) and Prakash Madavi from Karanji (Yavatmal).
The Samiti said the figure of 116 was the highest in a single month. Over 900 farmers have committed suicides since June 2005, they added.
