The incident occurred last night when children from the majority community were singing garba songs to raise funds for the festival. They were allegedly beaten up by a group of 20 people, police said.

Later, parents of the children went to the leader of the rival group and tried to persuade him to let them collect funds. However, they failed to convince the leader, who called others and attacked members of the majority community with sharp edged weapons, police said.

Offences were registered against 20 members of the minority community.

The injured, including one in a serious condition, were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Rajkot, police said.

Security has been stepped up in the area but no arrests have been made so far, police said.
