Sameer, a labourer from Uttar Pradesh, was on Tuesday arrested after the girl went missing from Jatwada locality in the town, 30 km from, Monday morning, police said.

Her father, who lives in a rented house in the locality with his family, found the body stuffed in a gunny bag dumped outside the house late in the night, they said.

He then reported the matter to the police who questioned the neighbours and combed the area.

They recovered another blood-stained gunny bag and a knife from a kitchen in the tenement occupied by Sameer, who was employed by the landlord.

Sameer allegedly confessed to having committed the crime and told police that after raping the girl, he killed her using the knife and smashing her head with a brick.

He kept the body in his room and tried to dispose it off during the night, he said.

The town was stalked by a serial killer who was reported to have raped and murdered at least 11 minor girls during the mid and late 1990s.
