According to India Post sources, it is planning to establish its own ATMs at the post offices in a phase-wise manner across the country. In the first phase, this facility would be provided at the big post offices in major cities all over the country. Thereafter, it would be introduced at the small post offices all across the country.
The introduction of ‘Smart ATMs’ has been proposed under a special drive launched by the India Post, under its scheme to provide best facilities to its custumers. The said drive was launched taking note of the regular complaints from the account holders/custumers of the India Post about the poor working by the officials engaged in the banking system with India Post.
Also the postal authorities are facing stiff competition from private banks and financial institutions that are providing quick and efficient services. Hence this upgradation in facility would not only address the complaints of its customers but also bring at par with the private players in the market.
Yadav said that some time back few banks had sent a proposal for establishing their ATM at the post offices but nothing is finalised. Meanwhile, India Post proposed the new idea of establishing its own ATM at post offices. The decision on the matter is still pending.
