The five, Selvam (son-in-law), Periaswamy, Kumaresh, Santhosh and Velu were arrested on October 4,police said on Monday.
On Sep 26, a three-member gang entered the house of Meera on the pretext of repairing her DVD and after gagging her son-in-law Selvam and grandson and threatening them at knifepoint, decamped with valuables including gold ornaments, mobiles and cash.
A Police team spotted the five-member gang "moving suspiciously" in a car and took them into custody on Saturday.
Interrogation revealed that it was Selvam, Meera's son-in-law who had hatched a plan to rob his mother-in-law, police said.
The police team recovered all the valuables and also Rs 15,000 from them.
