“The party is opposed to the commercialisation of Bt Brinjal… It is not in favour of it,’’ a source said after the Centre clamped an indefinite moratorium on Bt brinjal.
In the Congress’s lexicon, the party stands for the Congress president.
Sources said the Congress was opposed to the move, which was also resisted by farmers across the country.
The party saw no reason why it should be fast-tracked. “Where is the hurry to proceed with Bt brinjal? There are hundreds of brinjal varieties in India,” a Congress leader said.
