Sonnet romped home to an impressive six-wicket win over Rohtak Road Gymkhana in the Lala Raghubir Singh hot-weather cricket tournament at the Modern School grounds.
Chasing 170, Sonnet openers Aakash Chopra and Rahul Dhiwan put on a 111-run first-wicket partnership to pave the way for the fine win. While, Chopra hit an impressive 63 off 35 balls, the latter scored 72 off 55 deliveries. Though the batsmen were seldom tested, problems of a ‘technical’ kind did restrict their charge. The temporary floodlights were not sufficient enough to view the ball properly. Even the fielders missed out on a couple of easy catches, thanks to the poorly lit ground. “The lights are inadequate and not fixed at a proper height,” said a Sonnet player.
“These lights may be okay for a buffet but certainly not for a cricket match,” said a RR Gymkhana bowler. The organisers said they had not received any complaints.
