THE SAMAJWADI Party today launched ‘halla bol’ (attack) against Governor TV Rajeswar. Demanding removal of the governor, the party also threatened the Congress-led UPA government of dire consequence if it dared to dismiss the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
The chief minister deployed senior leaders, including State Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey, to ‘run down’ the Governor. The party said Central rule in UP would lead to Emergency in the country.
Leading the attack on the Governor, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav told party workers here on Saturday that Raj Bhawan would not be able to ensure victory of the Congress in the state. He said if his government was dismissed the UPA government at the Centre would not be able to complete its term.
Yadav, however, did not rule out the possibility of delay in election (up to May 2007) so that President’s rule could be imposed in the state. He said there was a conspiracy to delay the election on the ground of high school and intermediate examinations -- from March 17 to April 26. He feared that if the new assembly was not constituted by May 14, it could lead to imposition of the Central rule.
There were also other shrill voices against the Governor for his recent comments on the rising crime graph in the state. Yadav said Raj Bhawan had hatched a conspiracy against his government and the workers should gear up to give a befitting reply. He recalled that Motilal Vora had come as UP Governor to improve the fortunes of the Congress but he miserably failed.
Assembly Speaker Pandey, who is not supposed to attend party’s political rallies, also targeted the Governor for his statement on the police functioning, at the annual police parade, recently.
Pandey said it was strange that somebody holding a constitutional position had been violating its dignity. He said it was necessary to rebut the charges.
Senior vice president Janeshwar Mishra, while dubbing Rajeswar as a ‘Congress agent’, announced to take the battle to Delhi.
He even indicated to hold a rally against the Governor in Delhi. He dared the Congress to face the SP directly and not through the Raj Bhawan. He said Yadav’s dismissal would lead to a situation that Emergency would be imposed in the country.
Party leaders Mohan Singh and Ram Gopal Yadav reeled out National Crime Bureau data to claim that the crime situation in Uttar Pradesh was far better than any other state. Launching an attack on the Governor, Mohan Singh said the constitutional post of Governor was created as a ‘watchdog’ but the Congress had turned the Governor into a ‘biting dog’. He said the Governor, while “dishonouring the post”, had made Raj Bhawan a “police reporting chowki”.
Ramgopal Yadav said the Governor had not been properly fulfilling his duties.
Demanding his dismissal, Yadav said the “Governor had been behaving like a chief minister”.
SP general secretary Amar Singh, referring to Mohan Singh’s observation that the Governor had been working as leader of the opposition, said even “leader of Opposition could not stoop so low”. Singh said the Governor was an incarnation of Hitler’s Gobbles.
