I would make the larger statement only after Mehar has been laid to rest. However, the fact that Mehar’s assasins are still at large does indicate how alarming the situation is. The less said, the better.
State Congress President
It’s shocking. There are criminals all around us. I heard that a minister in the State Government was providing shelter to Mehar’s assassins. This needs to be probed. The entire incident is so shocking and then this is not the question of this being an isolated incident. I guess, such incidents have become the norm here.
We would be taking the issue very seriously. Though law and order is a State subject, yet we would try to do whatever we can to ensure that justice prevails. The incident is shocking.
Central Minister (of State)
I guess the incident only highlights the fact that we are fast getting alienated from our roots, our culture. There was a time when Lucknow or Awadh was known for its language, culture, food. Now, all this seems to be a thing of the past.
If Mehar’s culprits are not brought to book, I guess it would simply suggest that women in UP are not safe and that anyone can get away with anything. Mehar laid down her life fighting for the independence of women. After all, she could have kept mum when certain criminals eve- teased her daughter- in-law. But, she chose to speak up. It’s such a big loss.

Insecurity of women is what comes to mind instantly when one thinks of what happened to Mehar. I don’t have words to describe what has happened.
