Confirming the murder, Sitamarhi superintendent of police Pankaj Kumar Sinha said Pramod’s body was tied with a rope and there was a deep wound, inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon, on the back of his head.

“It appears he was subjected to severe torture, before being done to death on the spot. Initial investigation showed he was killed for having illicit relations with the girl”, the SP told reporters.

Pramod, originally from Maharashtra, was posted at Sijua outpost of SSB before being transferred to the Lalbandi camp. He had come to girl’s residence on Thursday night, after taking leave.

Local level sources said as soon as the news of his coming to girl’s house spread, some villagers assembled near her house and joined family members in ‘lynching’ Pramod for having ‘illicit relations’ with her.

A resident of Sijua told HT that Pramod had come to the village with two of his fellow SSB men, who allegedly managed to flee from the spot after sensing trouble.

“But Pramod was caught by mob, which tied him with her rope and brutally assaulted him. He died almost immediately”, the villager said.

Majorganj station house officer Anant Kumar said an FIR had been registered against four accused, namely, the girl, her two brothers and her mother, in this connection with the SSB man’s killing.

The FIR, Kumar said, had been lodged by the assistant commandant of the 20th battalion of the SSB.
