Taking serious note of this, SSP GK Goswami began ‘Operation: Talaash’ from Tuesday issuing circulars to all the police stations and other senior officials in this regard. The aim is to find out the girls and suitably rehabilitate.

Talking to HT Lucknow Live, Dr Goswami briefed about the concept behind conducting the operation. He said the local police usually take the cases of elopement casually and forget after lodging the FIR. And, in some cases the cops violate the ambit of law and help the complainant or even the accused for ‘personal interest’.

To tackle this problem, Goswami said, he has asked all police station in-charges, circle officers and the additional SPs to collect details of the cases pending related to the elopement. Police teams would be formed to search the girls eloped or abducted.

Once the girls are traced they would be thoroughly quizzed in the presence of her parents. If the girl would be major and gives her consent to continue living with the person (accused in the case) she would be allowed for the same after completing the legal formalities.

In the case of minors, the police would apply usual method of procuring the court’s permission to allow sending the girl with her parents.

The SSP said there were several cases of elopement/abduction which were lying pending with the police stations for over two years. The parents were running from pillar to post but their grievances were not heard.

Dr Goswami further said the purpose of conducting such operation was also to save the girls from being trapped into net of flesh trade. In a few of the cases, the girls/women are lured by their paramour to flee from the house. Once the girl or the woman leaves her house she is solely on mercy of the person with whom she has eloped. Those who are involved in the racket sell of the girl/woman in other states and the victims were tortured brutally if they denied for responding to the demand of the trade. Such victims are hardly freed from the confinement, the SSP said. The SSP said the operation would help saving such victims from the wicked hands of the racketeers.

SSP Goswami’s concept of conducting Operation: Talaash becomes apt with a fresh case of elopement. A teenager Sunny of Triveni Nagar locality flee with a 15-year-old neighbourhood girl on May 29.
