CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the State Budget for 2006-2007 in the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday at 11.30 am.

The CM is unlikely to introduce any new taxes in the budget. As the Vidhan Sabha elections are inching closer, the CM may also announce some populist measures in his budgetary speech. Later, the Vidhan Sabha will hold discussions on the annual Budget on February 20 while the debate on departmental grants are likely to be held on Feb 24.

The Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly will meet tomorrow to finalise the programme of the House. As per indications, the House will pass the annual Budget on March 9. As the State Government may also present supplementary grants also, the House may give its nod to them on the same day.
