The youngest captain ever for New Zealand is what he is well known for. Along with his superb batting skills. He has the ability to pace himself during Tests and let it all go in one-dayers.

At 23 years of age during the 96/97 season he was named captain for New Zealand and after 18 months he had five Test victories one against India, three against Sri Lanka and two against Zimbabwe.

He is a left handed batsmen and usually comes in around number 3.
