STF member in J&K to examine development needs

A senior educationist and member of the central Special Task Force, arrived in Kargil today to examine the development needs of the frontier region of Ladakh.

A senior educationist and member of the central Special Task Force (STF), arrived in Kargil on Thursday to examine the development needs of the frontier region of Ladakh.

Navnita Chadda Behra, professor of political science in Delhi University, is scheduled to meet with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development council (LAHDC), Kargil, and various segments of the society at Drass, Kargil and Leh, an official spokesman said here.

With a view to examining the development needs of the Jammu and Ladakh regions with particular reference to deficiencies in infrastructure and make suitable recommendations, the Centre constituted two six-member STFs for the two regions on October 13.

Planning Commission member Narendra Jadhav heads the STF for Ladakh and has been asked to submit a report within three months.

Construction of tunnel at Zojila Pass on 434-km Srinagar-Leh National highway, extension of airstrip in Kargil and financial assistance for ice hockey rink are likely to be taken up during the meetings, the spokesman said.
