Although the university was closed, the student leaders took out the procession and handed over a memorandum to the district officials.
They demanded that the student union election should be held immediately and democratic norms restored.
They also burnt the effigy of vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar on the university campus and criticised him for failing to conduct the election.
A group of student leaders also tried to set ablaze two rooms in the commerce faculty of the university. However, timely intervention by the security forces foiled their attempt.
Talking to Hindustan Times, university proctor Vinay Kumar said the security of the class rooms and laboratories was beefed up. The student leaders and others also called for Gorakhpur Bandh tomorrow.
At a meeting held here at the university guesthouse, student leaders said that they would force the closure of all educational institutions and business houses.
They said from December 13 to 17 students’ leaders would stage a relay hunger strike at the administrative building.
On December 18, a huge rally would be organised at the resident of vide-chancellor.
Meanwhile, office bearers of the All-India Students’ Association (AISA) condemned the university administration for postponing the election.
