Students? union election on Dec 7

THE DDU Gorakhpur University authorities on Wednesday decided to conduct the students? union election on December 7. The nomination would be filed on November 29 and 30.

THE DDU Gorakhpur University authorities on Wednesday decided to conduct the students’ union election on December 7. The nomination would be filed on November 29 and 30.

The varsity administration took the decision at an hour-long meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun, election officer Harishanker Shukla, chief proctor Prof Vinay Kumar Pandey and the office bearers of the outgoing student union.

“The proposal will be placed at the academic council and working committee meeting, and after the approval, the final date for holding the election will be announced,” said the official spokesperson.

The meeting of the working committee might be held within next two days. The suggestions made by Lyngdoh Commission are likely to be enforced during the election.

According to sources, the university administration virtually agreed to conduct students’ union election but clouds of uncertainty still hovered over it.

A group of student leaders have decided to move to High Court over the suggestions of Lyngdoh Commission.

University administration hopes that with enforcement of the suggestions of Lyngdoh Commission University would get rid off from the professional students leader who are in the campus from quite long time and participating in students union election.

It is noteworthy that Lyngdoh Commission has put an age barrier on the students contesting elections.

The students’ upto 25 year of age in case of the research students can contest the election.

The students’ union election aspirants are in tremendous pressure and Lyngdoh Commission has suggested Rs 50000 election expenditure for the candidates.

Students’ union president Raju Pandey said that commission had also suggested that the election for the students union should be conducted within four weeks from the commencement of the academic session but after four months from start of new session university authority has decided to hold the election and it was also violation of Lyngdoh Commission suggestions.

He demanded that this year the election should be held on old pattern and from next session the suggestions of the commission should be introduced.
