Style competes with dependability

The GLX 125 has a mediocrity thrives attitude about most things and still does some things better than the rest.

There are two ways of looking at the 125cc segment. The first is to make your 125cc an upgrade of the 100-110cc-commuter bike in your stable – the same way as TVS has done with the Victor GLX 125, persisting even with the brand name. The second is to design a completely new product. This is what Yamaha has done with the Fazer.

The GLX 125 has a mediocrity thrives attitude about most things and still does some things better than the rest. At 10.8bhp, the power figure is decent for its class but it is the mileage that the GLX will shine bright. The VT-I tech engine is the most fuel-efficient engine in its class. To help maintain fuel efficiency, there are the usual orange/green juggling lights in the console indicating power/ economy modes.

The Fazer is on the other end of the spectrum. The styling theme is throwing-caution-to-the-wind and Yamaha designers were obviously looking at the future while styling the bike. The Fazer comes with two headlamps in the front. Handling is one of the best in its class and Yamaha claims a mileage of 55kpl, something that the Fazer should easily attain. The Fazer is noteworthy for its silky smooth engine and a very slick gearbox.

TVS Victor GLX 125 For:

Great fuel efficiency

Good dynamics

Pleasant styling

Against: Boring at times Lacks punch

A new brand could have been added instead of extending the Victor

Yamaha Fazer For:

Great dynamics Attractive experimental styling Silky engine and slick gearing Against Where’s the fuel gauge? A bit more punch
