Support sought from NRIs
Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh on Tuesday asked persons of Indian origin and NRIs to offer technical and organisational support to the country to help it develop faster.
Singh told the 24th International Congress of NRIs here that while investment in the country by those settled abroad was important, "we are keen to receive technical and organisational skills from you".
He said the country would have to speed up growth if it did not want to be left behind in the global-era.
The nation also would have to take steps to become a manufacturing hub, Singh added.
"Our education sector can match the world's best at a fraction of the cost and we need to promote it to foreign students," he said.
The Minister, who distributed the Hind Rattan awards to NRIs and PIOs who had made significant contributions in their fields, said the children of those who had migrated to foreign shores had become part of the demography of their adopted countries.
