Surgeons? meet in BHU from Dec 25

A GALAXY of noted surgeons from India and abroad will assemble in Banaras Hindu University to discuss and disseminate recent advances in the field of surgery in a six-day conference ?ASICON-06? at Swatantrata Bhawan from December 25 to 30.

Union Minister of State for Public Reforms, Pension, Personnel and Parliamentary Affairs, Suresh Pachori will inaugurate the conference on December 27. Former chancellor of BHU Dr. Karan Singh will be the guest of honour at inaugural function and deliver the key-note address.

Talking to media persons here on Friday, head of the general surgery department and organizing secretary of the conference, Prof. VK Shukla said that the general surgery department of Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU in collaboration with Association of Surgeons of India and Varanasi Surgical Society would organise the conference.

“It would be for the first time that laparoscopic surgical procedures would be telecast from Coimbatore at Swatantrata Bhawan,” he said, adding, noted minimal access surgery expert, Dr. C Pallanivellu would perform surgery in Coimbatore on December 25 and that would be telecast live in BHU. “In the coming time what will be the true picture of surgical specialties, among the many methods in practice today which will remain and which is likely to be abolished and what are the new frontiers in the management will be discussed,” he said.
