Ahead of the festive season, malls have announced various discount offers and sales but as a precautionary measure to curb swine flu, such schemes should be put off, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said.

People should avoid crowded places during the festive season, he said after a meeting with officials to review the flu situation in the state, where 13 people have died due to the H1N1 infection.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was not present at the meeting as he was away in hometown Nanded, attending various meetings.

Meanwhile, state BJP leader Vinod Tawde criticised Chavan, saying the Chief Minister should be present in Mumbai, supervising the swine flu situation, instead of attending a 'kavi sammelan' in Nanded.
