Addressing a function to mark the 50th anniversary of Panchsheel, Singh stressed on the mutual desire of the two countries to develop wider and closer co-operation and understanding in regional and international affairs.
He recalled that Panchsheel was formally laid down as a framework for the conduct of international relations in a joint statement issued on June 28, 50 years back by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Premier Zhou Enlai.
Their vision led to the conceptualisation of the Panchsheel of the five principles of peaceful co-existence, he said.
Singh said the relevance of Panchsheel has endured through the years as a guide for the peaceful and harmonious conduct of international relations.
Panchsheel enshrines the right of all nations to choose their own path while interacting with others on the sound basis of mutual respect and equality.
On his recent meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, Singh said there had been warm, cordial and constructive discussion on the entire gamut of bilateral ties.
