STATE FOOD Commissioner Anoop Pandey said eight teams had been formed to carry out surprise checks in any part of the state to ensure proper distribution of ration and other items by fair ration shops.

Panday said the new practice was being introduced to address a common complaint of non-availability of ration at fair ration shops.

According to this, now all fair ration shops would be issued ration for the coming month. The date on which they would be issued the ration was 22nd of every month and on the 23rd of every month, rationing officials would ensure the ration had reached the shops.

Besides, with new norms of distribution, all fair ration shops had started distribution from the 5th of every month.

On the issue of fake and fabricated ration cards, he said a re-check had been ordered for all ration cards issued recently. Panday said the Central Government had reduced 20 per cent sugar quota for the state. However, he added, efforts were being made to meet the requirement by directly talking with sugar mills.

Panday visited the regional food corporation office and also many godowns.
