Telgi aides denied 'separate facilities' by court

A Delhi court on Friday rejected the plea of eight alleged accomplices of multi-crore fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi for separate vans for their transportation to the court.

A Delhi court on Friday rejected the plea of eight alleged accomplices of multi-crore fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi for separate vans for their transportation to the court and special lock ups citing "security reasons" and "enormous media attention".

Metropolitan Magistrate Rubi Alka Gupta rejected the plea, saying the accused "did not state specific reasons as to why they needed separate vans and there is no merit in their demand".

The court will continue hearing the matter on June 24.

Except Telgi, who is currently lodged in the Yerawada jail in Maharashtra and could not appear as he is unwell, eight accused Hafeez, Mansoor, Deepak, Amit Kumar, Sanjay Raina, Ramneek, Dheeraj and Devender appeared before the court on Friday in the case filed by the Daryaganj police which was shifted to the Karkardooma court from the Tis Hazari court.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in the Tis Hazari courts had on June 1, on a request by CBI, transferred all stamp paper cases against Telgi in various courts across Delhi to Karkardooma courts in East Delhi to secure the presence of Telgi through tele-conferencing.

The accused, through their counsel Pradeep Teotia, had sought a direction to the Tihar jail authorities for providing the special facilities.
