Testing the exam season

There are two schools of thought when it comes to life in the time of board exams. One, this being arguably the most important event of one?s life, he or she should forsake all happiness until the last exam is over and instead live, breathe, dream and defecate matters of syllabi.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to life in the time of board exams. One, this being arguably the most important event of one’s life, he or she should forsake all happiness until the last exam is over and instead live, breathe, dream and defecate matters of syllabi. The resultant stress that is generated will supposedly give the student that extra drive to perform well in this mandatory murine race. The other approach is to — what sociologists call these days — chill out. The preparation that was necessary prior to the exams has been done; now it’s time to calmly respond in the answer sheets. So in between exams, it isn’t a bad idea at all to follow some India-England Test cricket, catch an evening show of Taxi 9211, or just do whatever that has ‘examinations’ not stamped on it.

One must understand that by virtue of what these two extreme positions are, there cannot be a third way, i.e. focus on your exams during the exams and take the occasional break. As any student bright or dim will tell you, either one is prepared before appearing for board exams or one isn’t. So the action of stressful last-minute cramming and the seemingly strange display of complete sangfroid depends on which category a student falls under.

We can’t help but add that with the wisdom of hindsight, the phenomenon of board exams is something that is overrated. How else can we explain giving you gyan when our mark sheets are objects hidden away in a bank locker for a very good reason?
