The Oval, home of Surrey CCC, is considered the second most famous ground in England after Lord’s. The first ever Test match staged in England was played at the Oval in 1880. England beat Australia by five wickets.

Association football was played at the ground in the 19th century and it was the venue for the FA Cup Final in 1872, 1874 and 1892. The ground even had an ice skating rink in the 1880's but complaints about the noise from members resulted in it being closed.

In 1971 The Oval was one of the first cricket grounds to host a pop concert with The Who, Rod Stewart and The Faces performing to sell-out crowds.

England have a high success rate in both Tests and ODIs at the Oval. For India it has sentimental value as we won our first Test on English soil at this London venue in 1971. Don Bradman made his last Test appearance here in 1948.
