Thimphu elected Mila Tobgay, a local businessman as the new municipal representative to the Thimphu Dzonkhag Yargye Tshogdu on March 22, Bhutan's leading daily Kuensel reported.

Tobgay, 43, secured 325 of the 611 votes cast. His closest contestant Drangpon Dorji got 254 votes.
Although there were more than 5,000 eligible voters under the Thimphu municipal area only 611 turned up to exercise their franchise, Dzongkhag officials was quoted as saying in Kuensel.
He will serve as the municipal representative to the Dzongkhag Yargay Tshogdu for the next three years.
Mila Tobgay is from Nabi gewog, Paro, and graduated from the Semtokha Rigney Lobdra in 1981. He served the court of justice for about 13 years.
