The incident took place when the undertrial was being taken to Gurgaon, after being produced before a court in the national capital on Monday evening.

Assistant sub-inspector Hanuman Singh and constables Suresh Kumar and Ram Kumar were arrested soon after the incident. On Tuesday, they were produced before the district court which granted them bail.

A case has been registered at the Sushant Lok police station against the three policemen and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them.

According to the police, Manoj, the undertrial, along with the three policemen took lift in a car outside Saket court on Monday evening. When their car reached near a restaurant in Sector 42 of Gurgaon, Manoj offered them to have some refreshment in the restaurant. The policemen agreed. When they were entering the restaurant, Manoj along with the driver of the car fled.

“It was planned. It seems that the driver is known to the prisoner,” said a police official.

The police have started conducting raids in Delhi and NCR to nab Manoj. They have also released his photograph. Manoj, a resident of Nangloi in Delhi, has several cases of loot registered against him.
