Sources said a group of villagers of one community from Phugana village on way to their fields were fired at by members of another community from Loi village. The seriously injured men have been admitted to a hospital in Meerut.

Curfew was lifted from the district that witnessed the worst outburst of communal clashes in recent times, killing 43 people and displacing thousands of others.

Meanwhile, two BJP legislators Ganesh Joshi and Harbans Kapoor and their supporters in Dehradun didn't allow the Uttar Pradesh police to arrest the party's Bijnore MLA Bhartendu Kumar, who is wanted for his alleged role in the communal riots.

The policemen who came to arrest him didn’t carry the arrest warrant and hence were sent back.
