Three killed as militants attack village in Assam

Unidentified militants killed at least three persons, kidnapped another and set ablaze several houses in Gailung village in the strife-torn North Cachar Hills district of Assam today.

Unidentified militants killed at least three persons, kidnapped another and set ablaze several houses in Gailung village in the strife-torn North Cachar Hills district of Assam on Monday.

Militants attacked the village under Maibong police station by automatic weapons, killing at least three persons, police said.

They also set ablaze at least 90 houses and kidnapped a person before fleeing, they said, adding police reinforcement have been rushed to the spot.

On Saturday, three persons were killed and several houses burnt by militants in neighbouring Thailung village.

Meanwhile, the joint operation by the army, police and para military forces continued for the second day today following attack by miscreants at Dimasa community-dominated Phaidung village which left at least three dead.

N C hill district administration was keeping a round-the-clock watch on the situation, official sources said.
