Three terrorists of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba outfit and two soldiers were killed while three terrorists were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir since Tuesday night, a defence spokesman said.
Two LeT terrorists were killed in a gunbattle with security forces during search operations at village Shahipora in Handwara area of Kupwara district on Wednesday evening, the spokesman said.
He said the search operation was launched in the village on a tip off about presence of terrorists on Wednesday afternoon.
Some arms and ammunitions were recovered from the killed terrorists.
In another encounter, the spokesman said one LeT terrorist, a Pakistani national identified as Abu Khafa Mansoor, was killed in an operation at Kandi in Kupwara district.
One army jawan was also injured in the gunbattle, he said adding one AK rifle, one magazine and 10 rounds were recovered from the site of the encounter.
Terrorists shot dead two jawans of 161 battalion of territorial army at Lathimama village in Handwara area of Kupwara district on Tuesday night, the spokesman said.
The two jawans were killed at their respective homes while they were on leave, he said.
Security forces also arrested three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Nadihal in Bandipura area in Baramulla district, the spokesman said.
