Time for a filmy shaadi
Bollywood theme weddings are fast becoming a rage in the Capital.
Call it a knotty ode to Bollywood. From Mughal-e-Azam and Devdas to Om Shanti Om, and Salaam-E-Ishq — Bollywood blockbusters are becoming popular themes for weddings this season, with Dilliwallahs splurging big time on fulfilling their onscreen nuptial fantacies.

“In the Jodha Akbar theme, the décor is high on drapes and pillars with wood and stone work. We create two different sections — Rajput and Mughal and the décor, food and dressing is specific to these,” says Priti Sidhwani of wedding planners, Dreamz Kraft.
“Many want cocktail parties on the Om Shanti Om theme, with replicas of the sets and songs from the films for music,” says Praneeta Kochchar of Luxury Weddings. While a Bollywood theme cocktail or sangeet parties cost anywhere between Rs 10 to 14 lakh, an entire wedding can gross a whopping Rs 50 lakh to even a few crores. But that doesn’t bother our film junkies.
“Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Salaam-E-Ishq are the favourites for the youngsters’ parties. People also ask for the Pappu Can’t Dance Saala and Salaam-E-Ishq ambience,” adds Kochchar. Says businessman Varun Mehra, who had an Om Shanti Om cocktail party before his wedding, “We had vintage cars and sketches of SRK at the venue. I wore a wig, a fake moustache and an SRK tattoo on my arm. My wife changed three 70s hairdos for the evening.”
Real life star weddings too are an influence. “People ask for wedding invites like Abhi-Ash’s wedding card,” says Kochchar.
