Tom, Dick... to get sequel

A sequel? But the original is not even released, exclaims S Ramachandran.

A hit film like Munnabhai MBBS is being remade in a different context, but a sequel for Tom, Dick and Harry is already on the cards, even before the film has been released. The film, starring Dino Morea, Jimmy Shergill, Anuj Sawhney, Celina Jaitley and Kim Sharma and has been directed by Deepak Tijori.

"Yes, we have been having discussions on the subject," says Tijori.

Tijori is looking at a character-based sequel. One can recall N Chandra's sequel Excuse Me to his earlier hit Style where he used the characters Chantu and Bantu from his earlier film.

There are several such instances. Mr X starred Ashok Kumar in 1957, while Kishore Kumar starred in Mr X in Bombay in 1964. Or take producer-actor-director I S Johar's Johar in Bombay and Johar in Kashmir and later his pairing with Mehmood for Johar-Mehmood in Goa and Johar-Mehmood in Hong Kong.

Deepak Tijori, the director of Tom, Dick and Harry is already talking of sequels when the film has not even been released yet.

"It is indeed a fun idea to have such characters romp all over the world. The idea is to give an adventure like feeling like Tom, Dick and Harry in Bangkok. We are trying to experiment on that genre of sequels once we know that Tom, Dick and Harry become popular characters," says Tijori.

But then Tijori's idea of a sequel has a catch. The film can be made only if Tom, Dick and Harry clicks at the box office. "Obviously the film should have good collections. The plan is ready, now Tom, Dick and Harry should be a hit for us to do the sequel," says Tijori.
