The day saw five explosions within a 2-km range, from Dal Gate to Lal Chowk — all in areas frequented by tourists.

A vehicle carrying 15 tourists from Bengal was the first to be targeted in the Dal Gate area around 11.50 a.m.

Five of the eight critically injured died on way to the hospital. They included three of a family from Park Circus in Kolkata — Pratima Bhattacharya, son Sandeep and daughter-in-law Chaya. The other two victims, Kaveri Ghosh and Dinda Hildar, were also from Kolkata.

Two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Twenty minutes after the attack, a grenade was lobbed at a car at Regal Chowk, injuring a family from Lucknow. Nitish Rai suffered splinter injuries; his son and daughter escaped with minor injuries.

An hour later, militants tossed a grenade at a Tata Sumo, killing one (from Bihar) and injuring five. Another grenade explosion at Abi Guzre injured nine people.

The last attack took place near the Tourist Reception Centre at 3.15 p.m. Ten people — from Jammu and Punjab — were injured when a grenade was hurled at their vehicle.
