A FORTY-YEAR-OLD trader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Lallapura under the Sigra police station on Thursday night. The assailants managed to flee. Locals agitated with the murder created a scene in the area and pelted stones at the cops. The deceased has been identified as Isteyak Ahmad. The cause of murder has not been established yet. Police investigation was on to identify and nab the assailants, Superintendent of Police (City), Anant Deo said.

Police resorted to mild power in the area to disperse the violent mob. Jawans of Police and PAC have been deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward incident. An FIR against unidentified assailants has been lodged by the police.
The SSP suspended the outpost in charge of Lallapura area on charge of laxity on duty. The role of station officer would also be investigated.
Ishtiyak, by profession a slipper trader, was returning home from his slipper factory situated at Kohirana in the same area at 9 pm. As he reached the wine shop near Arya Samaj temple, some one shot him on his temple from point blank range.
The trader slumped to the floor bleeding profusely. Commotion gripped the area soon after the incident. Locals and police rushed the injured to a private hospital in Maldahiya area from where he was referred to the BHU hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident sparked off tension amongst family members of the deceased and locals. An agitated mob ransacked two wine shops near the spot of the murder and attacked a house and tried to set it on fire but cops foiled their attempt.
The cops from different police stations rushed to the affected area and started patrolling as a precautionary measure.
The SSP rushed to the spot, took stock of the situation and suspended a sub-inspector, Sunil Kumar Singh, in charge of Lallapura police outpost. Meanwhile, the trader was laid to rest in the graveyard amid tight security here on Friday evening. Normalcy returned to the area.
