Two IED’s detected, tragedy averted in Srinagar

Timely detection of two powerful improvised explosive devices, one each on Srinagar-Airport and Srinagar-Baramulla highways, by the security forces averted possible tragedy, official sources said in Srinagar on Tuesday.

Timely detection of two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one each on Srinagar-Airport and Srinagar-Baramulla highways, by the security forces averted possible tragedy, official sources said in Srinagar on Tuesday.

A ten kilogram IED, planted by militants, was detected by security forces in Barzulla-Baghat area on Srinagar-Airport road on Tuesday morning, the sources said, adding it was later defused by bomb disposal squad.

Another IED, weighing six kilograms, was detected by security forces on Srinagar-Baramulla national highway on Tuesday.

The IED was planted by militants on the roadside near Main Chowk in Baramulla district town, 55 kms from Srinagar, which was later defused, the sources said.

Traffic was temporarily suspended on the two roads when the IED’s were being defused, they said.

Police assisted by security forces have launched a man hunt to nab the militants who planted the IED’s, they said.
