Two suspected militants shot dead in Manipur

Some suspected militants also reportedly escaped during the encounter, official sources said.

Two suspected militants were shot dead in an encounter with commandos in Imphal East district of Manipur on Monday, official sources said.

They said a team police commandos rushed to Baruni hill area, about 15 km from the state capital, following reports that some armed ultras were moving in the area with the motive of attacking security men.

As the commandos reached the spot, they were challenged by the militants and in the exchange of fire that lasted more than 20 minutes, two suspected militants were killed, the sources said adding one pistol and some ammunitions were recovered from the deceased.

Some suspected militants also reportedly escaped during exchange of fire. Identity of the militants was not yet known, sources said.
