CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav asserted here today that poverty would automatically be reduced if the problem of unemployment was solved effectively. Precisely this had been the contention of his government, while starting payment of unemployment allowance to educated youths, he added.

Yadav addressed a well-attended public meeting soon after distributing cheques for unemployment allowance to about 29,000 youths and financial help of Rs. 20,000 to about 5,000 girls under the Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme. He said that his government in spite of resource crunch gave Rs 500 per month as unemployment allowance to honour its commitment and this amount would be doubled to Rs 1000 per month, depending on resource mobilisation.

He expressed concern over the falling ratio of girls as compared to boys and said this posed a serious situation in the society. He appealed to parents and guardians of the girls to utilise the Kanya Dhan for further education of girls.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation of 44 schemes and dedicated to the people the completed projects, involving an estimated expenditure of Rs 47.20 crore, for all-round development of the Vindhyachal division. He exhorted farmers, workers and the youth to jointly face forces opposed to development and defeat their nefarious designs.

Yadav said that about four lakh people in the State got jobs in the Government and non-Government organisation, while the situation was totally different in other States where a blanket ban on jobs had been enforced. He criticised the Chief Minister of Delhi for misleading the people on the issue of unemployment allowance. He further said that the Delhi Chief Minister should apologise for her views on the issue otherwise he would place the Prime Minister’s letter before the country. He said that several Central Ministers lauded the policies of the UP Government and the accelerated development of the State. Labour Minister Waqar Ahmad Shah, Akhilesh Singh Yadav, MP, and Chief Secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai also spoke on the occasion.
