Despite seven appearances in World Cup finals, the team has yet to make its presence felt. Topping their Group or beating Mexico 2-0 in the qualifying matches this year will not necessarily mean a good performance at the finals too.

For a nation which rarely plays team sports other than baseball and basketball, USA's record of qualifying for the football World Cup for seven times is indeedvery good.

The team reached Germany after a brilliant run in the qualifiers. For the first time in their history, they topped the group and the best moment came when they beat Mexico 2-0.

However, their time in Germany will not be that easy. Placed in Group E with three-time champions Italy, Czech Republic and Ghana, the first round test could prove to be too much for them!
