THE ASHOKA Garden police have busted a gang of vehicle lifters and recovered 13 two-wheelers that had been stolen from various parts of the capital in the last couple of years. Three persons, including the leader of the gang, have been taken into custody.

SP Anant Kumar Singh said that the gang leader Mehfooz, 32, a resident of Rafiqia School area near Shahjehanabad, had been evading the police for quite sometime. He further said that Mehfooz kept on shifting his residence almost every fortnight and also changed his accomplices who used to sell the vehicles stolen by him.

He had stolen and sold scores of vehicles in the past few years. Using master key he used to unlock the motorcycles and hand them over to his accomplices for selling them elsewhere. In order to cover up his activities, Mehfooz worked as financier for television buyers.

His accomplices Ayaz and Fakhruddin have also been rounded up and are being interrogated. The vehicles recovered include eight Hero Honda motorcycles, four Bajaj motorcycles and a scooter.

ASP GK Pathak said that the gang members operated in Indore, Sehore and Raisen as well. Most of the vehicles were lifted from MP Nagar, Habibganj, Koh-e-Fiza, and Jehangirabad police station areas. The police said that more two-wheelers were likely to be recovered from the gang members. Investigations were on.
