Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh suffered a setback on Wednesday with the Delhi High Court staying his multi-crore contract with Percept Talent Management.
Celebrity management firm Infinity Optimal Solutions (IOS) had challenged the boxer’s new contract contending that he had already signed an agreement with them till 2015 and therefore he could not enter into an agreement with any other party during the period.
“Till the next date of hearing, respondent No. 1 (Vijender) is restrained from entering into any sports management agreement with defendant Number (Percept) or any other third party,” said Justice S.L. Bhayana. IOS had signed Vijender in September 2005 for exclusive representation rights for 10 years. As per the agreement, all deals/promotions were to be rooted through IOS.
Vijender had became one of India’s highest paid non-cricket sportsmen after the agreement with Percept.
Following the deal, he was expected to take home around Rs 3 crore a year, significantly more than any other non non-cricket sportsmen.
