The world wanted to travel with Fergie on the Man United coach
With reference to the article Man Utd legend Fergie to retire at end of season (May 9), it would only be fair to say that Sir Alex Ferguson was committed to the cause of Manchester United with such passion and favour. He was ruthless, determined and devoted to building his club. His reign of 26 years has been an inspiration to fans the world over. May 19 will surely be a sad day for football. It is unlikely the sport will ever have a manager as good as Fergie again.

Karnataka prefers the power of one
With reference to the editorial A bit to cheer for the Congress (Our Take, May 9), Karnataka’s vote for the Congress does inadvertently seem to also be one against corruption. By earning a clear majority, the Grand Old Party has proven that the state and the nation is tired of unwieldy coalition governments. The prospect of single party rule has come to seem more attractive to the electorate. But rather than become complacent, the Congress must remember that it has won Karnataka by campaigning for cleaner governance. We are all hoping that the party will now make sincere efforts to deliver on its promise.

Impossible to have faith in the CBI
With reference to the editorial Coal tars UPA and CBI (May 9), the apex court’s revelations are bound to retrospectively cast a shadow of doubt over all the CBI’s earlier investigations. It will be impossible to trust any of the bureau’s investigations since the central government’s meddling in its affairs has become public knowledge. In keeping with the Supreme Court’s directives, the UPA 2 must make every effort to restore India’s confidence in the CBI, which must be freed from any political interference. Institutional degeneration should not affect our premier investigating agency.
