Making fun of everything that the West Bengal CM does isn't funny
The editorial Savour sandesh in space (The Pundit, June 11) is irrelevant. Naming roads, streets, hills, etc, is a universal phenomenon. So it's surprising why West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's proposal to name a mountain peak after Swami Vivekan-anda made Hindustan Times ridicule her. As far as the playing of rabindra sangeet at traffic intersections in the state is concerned, you should have known that the plan was put into effect much before Banerjee became the CM. In your eagerness to prove a point, you have made the mistake of ridiculing a capable leader.

A puppet in the hands of the US
The US's announcement of exempting India from Iran oil sanctions exposes the truth behind India's claim that it doesn't recognise non-UN sanctions (US exempts India from curbs over Iran oil imports, June 12). It's high time our leaders accepted that the US influences India's foreign policy decisions. They should openly admit that India is a puppet in the hands of the US.
