Wanted Maoist arrested by joint forces

A Maoist wanted by the police in a number of cases was arrested by Joint Forces from Manikpara area of West Midnapore district, police sources said today.

A Maoist wanted by the police in a number of cases was arrested by joint forces from Manikpara area of West Midnapore district, police sources said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off the joint forces arrested Biren Mahato from his hideout in Manikpara area last night, the sources said.

Mahato was the prime accused in the killing of the headmaster of a primary school Rabindranath Mahato on July 23, 2010.

He was also wanted for firing at Debashis Banerjee, a newspaper agent on May 25, 2010.

Mahato is also an accused in arms act case.

He was produced before the Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Rohan Sinha, who remanded him to seven-days police custody.
