THE ‘RUN for Literacy’ team received a warm welcome here. The team was confident that the people of Sagar take the message of the run and would educate their children.
Team leader Ajit Gill said that the NGO Council for Social Accountability has launched the statewide drive to eradicate illiteracy. For the same purpose, the ‘Run for Literacy’, a campaign “Ab Angootha Nahi Lagega” (no one will now use thumb impression instead of signature) had been launched from May1 from Bhopal. The campaign will conclude on June 30 after covering approximately 18,00 kilometres, he added.
Yesterday, the district education department organised a meeting of teachers with the team members. While addressing the meeting, Gill urged the teachers to motivate and attract the parents and children towards schools. Today, while talking to the Hindustan Times, Gill said that he had received warm response from each place.
In Sagar, they visited village Karrapur. In a meeting there, sarpanch Pravesh Rani filled an affidavit that she will encourage the village children to go to school.
Gill said wherever the team went, the parents expressed desire to educate their children, but were not able to do so because of economic problems. Another major problem that came to notice was that the children belonging to nomadic communities were not able to get education. On June 5, the team will proceed towards Chhatarpur district and the campaign will conclude at Bhopal.
