THE WATCHMAN of the Centre Point building in Jinsi area of Jehangirabad was found murdered inside a vacant shop this morning.
Jehangirabad TI S M Zaidi told the Hindustan Times that the deceased, Radheshyam (40), was found lying dead inside the shop owned by one V K Jain. A jewellery shop, Kerala Gold, owned by Sanjeev Kumar, in the same building in Jinsi area had been targeted unsuccessfully by some unidentified thieves on the night intervening Monday and Tuesday.
Police found the jewellery shop’s shutter lifted and recovered an oxygen gas cylinder and cutting instruments used by the culprits to cut open the shop’s safe. However, they had not managed to succeed in their attempt and the safe was found partially damaged but no jewellery had been stolen.
However, during investigations, police found a man Sahil alias Anwar in a semi-conscious condition from a nearby Internet shop. He works as a servant at the Internet shop.
He was sent to the hospital and he managed to tell the police that a new tenant of a shop upstairs had served him tea last night and that had made him loose consciousness.
When police reached that shop upstairs, it was found locked. Its owner V K Jain was called and the police broke open the shop’s shutter.
Inside the shop, police found the watchman Radheshyam’s body lying with hands and legs tied up and tape stuck on his mouth. He appeared to have been strangulated to death and police noticed blood oozing from his mouth.
Jain told police that he had rented out the shop to an unidentified person just couple of days ago. However, he had failed to note the name and address of the tenant.
Police suspect that the same tenant has carried out the attempted robbery and murder, as he has been missing ever since. Further investigations are on in the matter.
Police were still at the spot late at night till the filing of this report but the entire case was still shrouded in mystery. Police are investigating further to ascertain if the attempted robbery and murder have some link or not. Attempts are also on to identify and nab the culprits.
