West Bengal candidate beaten up

Gobinda Naskar, former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress candidate for Canning West assembly seat, has been allegedly assaulted by a group of people while campaigning in South 24 Parganas district, police said on Wednesday.

Six CPI(M) supporters have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

The incident occurred at Brindakhali Jayatala area when Naskar was out on a door-to-door campaign on Tuesday, police said.

The Minister claimed in his FIR that while his brother and security guard were injured, he received cuts.

Naskar, a former minister who held portfolios of Sunderbans Development, Education and Health from time to time, is now the South 24 Parganas District President of the Trinamool Congress.
