The West Indians were not planning to spend their time for lunch on the first day of the second Test talking cricket, so skipper Brian Lara had said.

They were going to spend it watching Trinidad and Tobago's Soca Warriors play their World Cup opener against Sweden, or at least as much of it as they could.

After Virender Sehwag had plastered their bowling all over the Beausejour Stadium they would have been glad of that diversion.

In fact, so engrossing was the match that the West Indians almost forgot all about cricket. "The guys were screaming for us to come out to the ground. It was a real inspiration to watch them (Soca Warriors) play," said Lara.

Journalists from the Caribbean countries also turned their mind away from cricket - all eyes were on the press box television screen, showing the World Cup match. And when it ended in a goalless draw, the first words spoken were: "We got to let Brian know the result."

And there was a smile on Lara's face when he did get to know the result. Perhaps, the only time the West Indian skipper smiled the whole day.
