Will not invoke ESMA: Duraimuruga

As the nationwide truckers strike entered the seventh day, Tamil Nadu law and PWD minister Duraimurugan said that the state government would not invoke ESMA, though UP, Goa and Rajasthan hadalready done so.

As the nationwide truckers strike entered the seventh day, Tamil Nadu law and PWD minister Duraimurugan on Sunday night said that the state government would not invoke ESMA, though Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Rajasthan hadalready done so.

"We have not thought about it, though the nationwide truckers strike is now into its seventh day," he said at a function at Katpadi near in Vellore.

Referring to the proposal of Andhra Pradesh to construct a check dam across the Palar river, he said the matter would come up for hearing in the Supreme Court this month. He said the government had earmarked rs 300 crore for construction of buildings for lower courts in the state.
