Yuvraj brings into his cricket some of the Punjabi gung-ho attitude. He made his debut against Kenya in the ICC knock out tournament in Nairobi in 2000. He imediately hogged the limelight and stole the heart of many Indian fans in his very second match against Australia by scoring a blazing 80-ball 84 which in the end proved to be a match-altering innings.

In the very next game against South Africa he scored 41 against Allan Donald and Shaun Pollock that showed that this tall lad from Chandigarh had what it took to perform at the highest level.

He then played another match-winning innings at the Coca-Cola cup in Sri Lanka against the hosts and scored an unbeaten 98. But due to his lack of consistency, he has been in and out of Indian team.

Apart from his flashy batting what makes his presence in the team is his fielding and his ability to turn his arm over. He helps lifts the standard of the team's fielding and with Mohammed Kaif forms a formidable fielding pair marshalling the close in regions.
