Indore transporters criticise government for VAT hike

Indore truck operators and transporters association has flayed the Madhya Pradesh government for hiking value added tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol by 4%.

Indore truck operators and transporters association has flayed the state government for hiking VAT on diesel and petrol by 4%. "The transporters will now prefer to fill tanks in other states and this will reduce the diesel consumption in the state by 25%," a release issued by the association stated.

"The VAT on petroleum products in Madhya Pradesh is the highest in the country. Last year, when the prices of petroleum products were rising continuously, we had requested the government to reduce VAT but the government had ignored our demand. So, why has the government increased VAT now that the prices have come down," the release added.
